Coachella has come and gone. The once insider music festival has become so well-known that alongside lists telling you what to wear are now lists on what trends need to retire (hint: knee-high gladiator sandals and feather headdresses).
Although festival season is used as a source of street-style inspiration, there are only a few trends that proliferate beyond the seasonal culture. I think that should change, don't you?

When Pantone introduced Emerald as their Color of the Year for 2013 I was ecstatic. I love this particular shade of green and there just isn't enough apparel made using that color. And if you do find it, it's something undesirable left on the clearance rack. I thought to myself back then, finally we will see designers adding it more prominently to their color palettes and more stores stocking it. I imagined glorious blouses, emerald suede pumps and jewel-toned skinny jeans. Well, here we are, at the tail end of 2013 and I'd still have to search to find anything in emerald green. Specifically Pantone color 17-5641.
So here we are again. 2014 is a breath away and Pantone has announced the latest Color of the Year 'Radiant Orchid' with the usual fanfare and whimsical descriptors.
"Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination"
Umm. Okay. Sure. Since the announcement almost two weeks ago, it's been covered in some way, even on legitimate news outlets like CNN. In their defense, it was under a heading titled "Apparently This Matters". I didn't read it, but I thought the title was apt, because, I'm not sure if it does.

Marciano's lookbook is so spring I can't stand it! In a good way just in case the sarcasm is lost in the reading. Instead of having you look around for my favorites I just collaged them (above). I'm all about the floral on floral (I'm coining that term) suit and the cropped length of the trouser allows a sliver of skin to break up the medley. The all white and tangerine color suits are must-have/wish list/closet-stuffer items as well.
The lookbook is full of brights and pastels, but Marciano makes sure to include their signature edge with plenty of LBDs to add to your collection.

So let me tell you a story. It's a very good story...
Several times this year, while walking down 34th Street between Herald's Square and Penn Station, a particular shop across the street from Macy's kept making it's way into my peripheral vision. So much so that I developed a minor fixation on it. It could have been the perplexing name, WHO.A.U. or simply the distinct orange background on which it was typed. I can't say. But for whatever reason, no matter how zoned out I was, I always managed to come out of my trance as soon as I walked passed it. It happened so often that I had this little game I played in my head where I tried to figure out how to pronounce the name; Who Ahh You? Who Are You? Who You? Who Australia? I think this little ritual actually kept me from walking inside to see the merchandise. It became like a game of make believe. A mystery. A guessing game of what could be in the shop with the curious name. To actually go in would have meant ruining the game and making my special little shop just another retailer in a block full of them.
