I have it on good authority that True Religion is about to make a comeback. Actually, I saw it in a video. A video where an incredibly hot guy bursts through a door followed by his equally hot entourage swaggering and smoldering through a room in head to toe denim while other hot people look on as the camera pans from chiseled cheeks to butt cheeks when, finally, they all stop to cheer on hot guy... playing a ping pong game. Well done, True Religion. Well done.
Our friends over at BPD Washhouse are going to be featured tonight on Esquire Network Television(yes, from the "Esquire Magazine"), as the storyline for the reality show Lucky Bastards. Lucky Bastards. Ha! What a name. But so apropros.
This is how Esquire describes the show;
"After years of friendship, six friends are right where they started: together and taking advantage of every opportunity New York City has to offer. Now businessmen, privileged ne’er-do-wells and even a prince (seriously—one of them is an actual prince), their dynamic remains the same. The bachelors of Lucky Bastards won’t let each other get away with anything, but they’ll also never let each other down. They just want to have fun. With their friends. And preferably quite a few beautiful women."
From the trailer, it looks as if Bill Curtain, owner of BPD, is giving one of the guys advice on how to launch a denim line. I have to say, they came to the right stuff. Bill really knows his sh*t and BPD happens to be the only wash house on the east coast.
We are living in an age where we are limited only by our imagination and that is most evident in the area of design which encompasses architecture, interiors and technology. There is something about design that I find so fascinating and I am constantly amazed by the steady stream of innovation from these areas. The fashion industry, though design-oriented by nature, is most forward-thinking and progressive in the area of wearable tech, often looking for ways to merge the two. So it was only a matter of time before the latest buzzthing in the area of design, 3D printing, found it's way into fashion.
The Oscars have come and gone. I spent the day like most others, watching the red carpet, catching a moment here and there, losing interest and finding out the winners by checking my Twitter and Facebook every now and then. Well, maybe that's not how everyone spent it. The show did reach an average 43 million viewers and Ellen Degeneres did break the twitter record. Sooo. I guess I take it all back.
The long and short is, as the editor of a site that focuses on denim and sportswear, the Oscars aren't something that I cover, but thanks to Levi's that's all about to change. At least for today.
In honor of the Academy Awards, Levi's created a top 12 list of Academy-nominated films that have "blue jean styling". Considering that jeans feature in so many films I assumed it would be a rather cheeky list of the Buzzfeed variety, but then I saw gems like Westside Story and Brokeback Mountain, numbers 2 and 10 respectively, and I realized this was authentic.
The complete list is on the Levi's Unzippedblog where you can also watch a short clip of each film and learn some interesting facts like, did you know that Billy Baldwin and George Clooney were this close to playing J.D., the character played by Brad Pitt in Thelma & Louise?
Take a look at their picks. I bet #1 will surprise you.
I like Replay. I always make it a point to shop there when I go to Europe. I'm looking forward to the day they expand their presence in the US, but then, it's cool wearing something that other people have to travel to get. That doesn't have anything to do with the video. I just wanted to share.
When FC Barcelona won the world cup in 2009, I happened to be in Barcelona on business. My taxi was stuck behind a celebratory parade that seemed to attract the entire city. Even helicopters were flying overhead. I didn't follow soccer football at the time and had no idea what was going on, but that was my first glimpse into the madness of the game and it's fans. Another thing that has nothing to do with the video. Just in the mood for sharing.
Replay Product Developer, Stefano Pigazzo with the help of top models Isabeli Fontana and Ana Beatriz Barras, both of Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated fame, decided to surprise the entire FC Barcelona team with suits from the brand. They documented the surprise in a really cute video. I thought it would be fun to share.
What do you think the guys were more happy to see, the suits or the girls? I guess that's a no brainer.
Too bad we didn't get to see them wearing the suits. I'm curious about what's inside the bag.
Online MBA has an informative and succinct video on fast fashion and how it impacts the industry and the environment.
Check out the video (it's only about a minute long). Will this impact your decision to shop at these kind of stores? Would you feel guilty if you answered, no?
Alexa Ray Joel covers dad Billy Joel's 1979 hit "Just the Way You Are" and she sounds amazing.
Gap's Back to Blue campaign features a contemporary musician recording a song made famous by a parent years ago. It's supposed to express the idea of "one's authentic self". At first that seems kind of the opposite of singing someone elses song, but when you hear Alexa's introspective take on her dad's song it all makes sense.
Alexis K. Morgan of Poshglam caught up with Kristin Cavallari as she celebrated the launch of her spring shoe line for Chinese Laundry, an ongoing collaboration between the reality star and the popular shoe brand.
Watch the vid to see Kristin not only talk about her latest collection, but also give us a little peek inside her life. Thanks to the gals at Poshglam for sending this our way!
Who can't go anywhere nowadays without hearing aboutKickstarter. The crowdfunding site has capitalized on the zeitgeist of the millenium by cultivating that entrepreneurial spirit that has spread like wildfire with Millennials; a group which has been famously forced to think outside the box due to the Great Recession. So far the most famous Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign is aimed at rebooting Veronica Mars, ironically a Millennial favorite. With electronics, movies, video games even board games all seeking funding, it was only a matter of time before a denim brand jumped in on the action.
RPMWest is a startup men's brand that is using Kickstarterto bring their collection of selvage jeans to the world. And from the looks of the video, they're a pretty well-fitting line of jeans. Now with their pledges at over $50,000, the brand is able to offer a purchasing model that allows you to buy one pair of jeans and have three pairs sent to you. You pick your favorite and send the other two back free of charge. Pretty cool, huh? Not only that you're getting the premium jeans at wholesale prices. So what would cost over $250 in stores you get for under $100. Now we're in pretty awesome territory.
Check out the video as founder, and Matt Damon lookalike, Manuel Rappard walks you through the brand's mission. With such a sincere vid, you will be hard pressed to not want to invest. Especially when you can literally pledge as little as $1. I pledged. I have to admit it was pretty cool investing in a company outside of the impersonal stock market.
I'm going to keep my eye on RPMWestas I'm curious to see how it all plays out. In the meantime denimhunters, if you decide to purchase a pair of jeans from them, don't hesitate to let us know of your experience.
